Creating a unique entryway with a tonic exit

I designed and crafted this mural, stretching across the entire left wall of my entryway, taking on part of the ceiling and the exit door. I used many details showcasing my love for miniatures and colorful interior design.

Inspired by the sleek and minimalist Japandi style, the Birch square wood Dowel rods are the natural wood elements, adding warmth and organic texture to the overall composition. The strategic placement of these wooden accents not only enhances the balance and flow of the artwork but also creates a striking contrast against the bold and vivid colors.

The Mural

During the pandemia, the energy in our home turned tense. In the fall of 2022, I started this mural to support our mental and emotional healing process. I chose yellow to enhance positive, cheerful, and warm moods. Blue is for peace and trust, black is for security, white is for clarity, purple is for helping us connect with our deepest thoughts, and the unfinished light birch wood encourages calmness, coziness, and comfort.

The Wooden Retainer

I designed a wooden retainer for miniature creations and souvenirs. These Birch Square Wood Dowel Rods were horizontally and vertically aligned with exactly four inches of space. Creating four-by-four frames allowed symmetrical space for each miniature piece.

The wooden retainer holds a variety of tiny items such as old Dominican coins I brought with me when I migrated from The Dominican Republic in 2004; Japanese dishes; an alebrije brought by friends from Mexico as a souvenir; a variety of vintage sewing machines; a ceramic and a clay pot with dried flowers; greek tiles I made from broken pieces; a variety of dried exotic fruit seeds; a shelf with books, beverages, and a clay pot with dried flowers. The retainer also holds air plants and many other items.

This stunning entryway has proven to be an invaluable addition to our home. Its aesthetic charm embraces us, offering solace and tranquility as we navigate the lingering impact of the pandemia. Its inviting ambiance welcomes us at the end of a stressful day, shifting our mindset from chaos to serenity. With each step we take through this hallway, we feel a sense of renewal and hope, gradually mending the wounds inflicted by a world in turmoil.
